Shortland Residence is defined by strength, texture and restraint. A masculine, grey-toned interior is softened through warm joinery, refined stone and carefully layered light, creating spaces that feel architectural yet livable. This is a home shaped by material honesty and quiet confidence.
The brief for Shortland was informed by the client’s background as a concreter and a desire for interiors that expressed materiality, strength and refinement. Sici developed a cohesive interior language using a restrained grey palette, balanced by warm timber joinery and considered detailing.
A clear, well-proportioned layout allowed the material palette to take focus, supporting a series of spaces that feel grounded, functional and comfortable to live in while maintaining a strong architectural presence.
The material palette centres on cooler limestone with strong natural character, balanced by warm timber joinery, textured finishes and brushed metal accents. Concrete-inspired surfaces are used throughout to reflect the client’s trade, creating cohesion across the home.

The kitchen is a strong, sculptural space grounded in grey stone and softened through warm joinery, combining refinement and functionality in a way that reflects the client’s own craftsmanship.
The living space is comfortable, light-filled and welcoming, supporting relaxed family life. Complementing this, the dining area is simple and functional, connected directly to the main living spaces to encourage ease and flow.
The master bedroom suite is calm and moody, offering a more masculine interpretation of the Sici sanctuary. Bathrooms are stone-led and architecturally driven, with subtle warmth introduced through joinery and finishes.
Shortland reflects a close alignment between client and designer. The interiors draw directly from the client’s craft, translating concrete-led strength into a refined residential setting where texture, proportion and warmth work together with clarity and control.
