Empire Residence is a deeply personal family home, conceived as a bold yet timeless architectural presence within its South Sydney setting. While the exterior presents strength, structure and permanence, the interiors transition into softer, more intimate spaces. Envisioned to feel like a personal boutique hotel, Empire balances architectural clarity with warmth, comfort and refinement.
Designed around the rhythms of modern family living, Empire responds directly to its client’s lifestyle through strong architectural form and carefully resolved interiors. The brief called for a home that conveyed confidence and enduring character from the street, while inside, opening to a layered, welcoming experience.
Sici led both the architectural and interior design, allowing the transition from exterior to interior to be carefully choreographed. Spaces unfold gradually, moving from bold structural expression into softer, tactile environments defined by crafted stone and joinery. The result is a home that’s considered, protective and deeply personal.
The interior material palette called for a warm and deliberately layered approach. Light walnut veneer is used extensively throughout the home, imbuing the spaces with softness, continuity, and understated luxury.
Calacatta Vagli marble introduces movement and elegance through its expressive veining, while Taj Mahal stone offers a softer, more restrained counterpoint. Together, they create depth and contrast, reinforcing the boutique-hotel sensibility while maintaining a cohesive interior visual language.

The kitchen is both refined and robust, designed as the functional heart of the family home while maintaining an elevated presence. Light walnut veneer joinery is paired with stone surfaces, balancing warmth and strength.
Living and dining spaces continue the interior’s softer language, with layered materials, warm timber tones, and refined stone detailing creating an intimate yet welcoming atmosphere.
Soft, serene and richly layered, the master bedroom is a private retreat. Drawing from the design language of a boutique hotel, this space is defined by light walnut veneer, intricate stone detailing, and a restrained tonal palette that promotes rest and restoration.
This space bedroom offers a sense of escape within the family home, balancing inherent functionality with quiet luxury.
Empire Residence is a study in contrast and cohesion, with its bold exterior giving way to warm, welcoming interiors.
